Reflective & Reflexive Practice for Education Staff and School Teams
I work with primary and secondary schools to provide a reflective and reflexive space where education staff across all roles and levels come together to explore the challenges and rewards of their work. Using systemic ideas, we focus on enhancing relationships with parents, children, and other professionals to foster a supportive and collaborative environment, that recognises the importance of learning. We may explore strenghts, difficulties and what these mean for what is more or less useful to do.
Supporting Schools and Education Professionals
With extensive experience in the Thames Valley region, including working alongside local authority social services, I support multi-disciplinary teams from social care, education, and health sectors. My work includes:
- Collaborating with commissioning teams to develop tailored therapeutic models for education and residential care settings
- Designing and implementing service evaluations and feedback processes
- Shaping organisational culture and values through systemic group functioning and development to ensure effective service delivery
- Navigating statutory frameworks and integrating outcome measures, particularly for teams with limited psychological awareness
- Facilitating team and group consultations focused on systemic formulations about children and families
- Developing strategies to create and sustain meaningful change over time
Expertise with Vulnerable Children and Looked After Populations
I have particular experience supporting teams working with children looked after (CLA), understanding their unique needs and the systemic factors affecting their wellbeing and development. This expertise helps educational professionals tailor their approach and collaborate effectively across agencies.
Why Reflective Practice Matters
Reflective practice helps school staff to pause and consider their emotional responses, relational patterns, and professional challenges. It encourages curiosity, reduces burnout, and strengthens teamwork. Ultimately benefiting the children and families you work with. Feedback I have had is that the space brings clarity, it provides reassurance. It is not that staff do not know how to respond or what to do necessarily, it is having a space to make sernse of what is happening, or has happended and how that frames or can in some instances direct the response.
It is a space in which to talk about affrodances and constraints, recognising areas that are possible for growth and areas that are not so ready for growth. It is about finding and naming what is possible and what type of experience that the school wishes to provide. It is about creating a relational approach, while understanding the context in which other systems are responding, at the same time.
I offer group and individual sessions, within school and often these can be as and when support, or on a more regualr basis, that acknowledges the school routine and timetable.
